As the cherry blossoms begin to bloom, K-drama stars are busy signing on to a variety of coming projects, among them a period crime series, a fantasy romance, a mystery melodrama and a film-industry-set romantic drama. Born Guilty Itaewon Class star Park Seo-joon is set to act opposite Uhm Tae-goo (My Sweet Mobster) and Jo Hye-joo (Dear Hyeri) in the coming Disney+ drama Born Guilty. Based on a webtoon of the same name, this crime-action series will be set in a lawless city in the 1980s in the middle of a ruthless redevelopment boom. Park has signed on to play Paeng-i, a mysterious criminal who appears in the area as it gears up for the looming 1988 Seoul Olympics. He finds his way into the local drug business and devises a dangerous scheme, dragging disgraced gangster Sang-dak (Uhm) and his first love Bok-hee (Jo) along with him. Park recently appeared opposite Won Ji-an in the romantic comedy Surely Tomorrow. He also has a guest role in the recently launched second season of Netflix series Bloodhounds. At the helm of the series is Hong Won-chan, known for directing the big-screen action thriller Deliver Us from Evil with Hwang Jung-min and Lee Jung-jae. The Palace Is Home to Dog Flowers Extraordinary Attorney Woo star Park Eun-bin is circling a leading role in the new period drama The Palace Is Home to Dog Flowers. Based on a web novel penned by Yoon Tae-roo, the story is set in the imperial court of a fictional country known as Eun and follows the romance that unfolds between a beautiful consort, whose fearsome jealousy has earned her the moniker “dog flower”, and Eun’s level-headed emperor. Park is eyeing the role of Consort Hyeon Gae-ri, while casting is currently in progress to fill the roles of Emperor Eon and Princess Inwon, Gae-ri’s romantic rival. Last seen in the comedy-drama Castaway Diva and the medical thriller Hyper Knife, Park will next appear alongside Cha Eun-woo in the superhero action-comedy The Wonderfools, due to launch on Netflix in May. She is currently filming the K-drama remake of the horror romcom Spellbound. Jae-yi’s Young-in K-drama icon Lee Young-ae (Jewel in the Palace) is set to reunite with Yoo Ji-tae for the mystery romance Jae-yi’s Young-in, following their work on the timeless romance One Fine Spring Day in 2001. Lee will play Joo Young-in, a painter and art teacher who, grieving the loss of her son, spends her days and sleepless nights painting murals. Yoo will portray Shin Jae-yi, the boss of an architecture firm whose free-spirited nature masks a void in his life caused by dissociative amnesia triggered by a past trauma. As the truth behind his condition steadily reveals itself, pain and confusion surface. Jae-yi’s Young-in will depict the meeting and gradual connection of these two characters as they grapple with their buried secrets. Following her acting comeback just under a decade ago, Lee has appeared in several popular shows, including Inspector Koo and Maestra: Strings of Truth. Yoo is in the currently showing The King’s Warden, which has just become the third most watched Korean film of all time at cinemas. Still going strong, the blockbuster is on the verge of crossing 16 million admissions at the box office. Dream to You Lee Sang-yeob (Beyond the Bar) has joined Lee Hye-ri (Friendly Rivalry), Hwang In-youp (True Beauty) and others in the coming ENA drama Dream to You, the latest series from scribe Jung Eun-bi, known for her work on the hit dramas Guardian: The Lonely and Great God and Doom at Your Service. This romantic comedy will depict the reunion of Woo Soo-bin (Hwang), a brilliant filmmaker who returns to his hometown having achieved his dreams, and reporter Jo Ji-yae (Lee Hye-ri), who has all but forgotten hers. Lee Sang-yeob will appear as Seo In-wook, the head of a production company who is close to Soo-bin. Dream to You slots into a recent trend of film-industry-set dramas, which includes last year’s Melo Movie, Our Movie and You and Everything Else, and this month’s We Are All Trying Here. The series is expected to launch in the second half of the year.
