The latest round of production announcements out of South Korea promises a rich assortment of dramas, among them a baseball series, a May-December mystery-romance, a spy action-thriller and a fantasy K-pop drama with a slew of music industry names.

Gold Digger
Kim Hee-ae (Queenmaker) and Noh Sang-hyun (Perfect Crown) are teaming up for the JTBC drama Gold Digger, which is also set to star Cha Hak-yeon (Absolute Value of Romance) and Kim Ji-eun (One Dollar Lawyer).
Noh will appear as Jung Jae-hee, a freelance designer who becomes involved with Min Young-joo (Kim Hee-ae), the head of a publishing company. Given their significant age difference, Young-joo doubts whether Jae-hee truly has feelings for her or is only using her.

Cha and Kim Ji-eun are set to play Young-joo’s grown-up children.
Kim last partnered with JTBC on 2020’s The World of the Married, an adaptation of the BBC show Doctor Foster that remains the most successful Korean cable series of all time.
Gold Digger is based on the British television series of the same name, starring Julia Ormond and Ben Barnes, that aired in 2019. Directing the series will be Im Hyun-wook, known for Surely Tomorrow and King the Land.
Full Count
Seven years after the acclaimed hit Hot Stove League, broadcaster SBS is heading back to the baseball diamond with the sports drama Full Count, which is set to feature Kim Rae-won (The First Responders) and Park Hoon (Bloodhounds).

Kim will star as Hwang Jin-ho, manager of the Stars, a popular baseball team that is facing relegation as they near the end of their season.
Jin-ho used to play as a catcher, but through bad luck, spent most of his career on the bench. He has been more successful as a coach, but when he accepts the post of manager at the Stars, he is seen as an outsider.
Among those looking down on him is Jo Dong-hee (Park), a legendary pitcher who has longed to become the manager of the Stars.
Love Scout director Ham Joon-ho will helm Full Count, which is due to air later this year.
Retired Agent Management Team
Recently seen in Park Chan-wook’s acclaimed film No Other Choice, Cha Seung-won has been confirmed to lead the new tvN drama Retired Agent Management Team alongside rising star Kim Do-hoon (Moving).

Cha will play Kim Chul-soo, a one-time black agent at the National Intelligence Service (NIS) who has retired and now runs a humble neighbourhood car wash, but still harbours a passion for his days as an agent.
Kim is set to feature as Go Yo-han, a young agent who excels in training. However, upon joining the NIS, he is assigned to the lowly Retired Agents Management Team, where opportunities to prove himself are few and far between.
Despite their differences, Chul-soo and Yo-han share a common goal when they team up to track down the figure behind a criminal organisation.
The series will be scripted by Kim Min-sung and Song Han-na, who previously co-wrote A Bloody Lucky Day, while directing duties fall to Jin Chang-gyu (Buried Hearts).
My Idol, My Debut
A cast featuring several K-pop stars has been announced for the forthcoming MBC Plus drama My Idol, My Debut.
The series will feature Q from boy band The Boyz, Kaede of tripleS, Wooah member Nana, Mexican-born newcomer Aisa, Up10tion’s Lee Jin-hyuk, former Aweek member Lee Jin-gyu, former TRCNG member Lee Ho-hyeon, and rising young actress Hwang Ji-ah.

This time-slip coming-of-age tale will follow a fervent fan who travels eight years into the past and becomes an idol trainee as part of her plan to prevent a tragic accident.
Merging fiction and K-pop promotion, the series will focus on the boy band Boy to the Moon and the girl band Irion, whose music will be officially released alongside the show.
Hwang Ji-ah, who previously appeared in Queen of Tears, will portray Choi Ae-ni, the fan who goes back in time and becomes a member of Irion.
My Idol, My Debut is slated to launch this coming July.
