Seven years into their career, the BTS members have released numerous albums as a group. But when it comes to members’ solo work, the library of offerings is less expansive, with only the group’s three rappers having released their own mixtapes. On these solo projects, RM, Suga and J-Hope spread their artistic wings and express their individual musical tastes and performance styles, sharing new sides of their personalities with the world.
Here’s what you need to know about the BTS members’ solo projects to date.
RM, March 2015
RM was the first to share his own solo-album-style release via SoundCloud back in 2015. The 11 songs are hard-hitting and intense in both subject matter and rap style, with RM sampling the likes of J. Cole, Drake and Major Lazer as he expresses himself by drawing on the legacy of other artists.
The mixtape – along with music videos for Awakening, Do You and Joke – explored his opinions on subjects including haters, and his thoughts on fate, serving as an intimate look into the rapper’s world view.
