March will find several serial killers stalking our screens with the premiere of a number of new dark Korean dramas and thrillers, including a remake of an acclaimed indie film. A global bestselling book about a Korean immigrant family is also getting the TV treatment. Here’s this month’s new K-drama line-up. 1. Crazy Love Last seen three years ago in Her Private Life , Kim Jae-wook returns to screens as Noh Go-jin, Korea’s top maths instructor as well as a handsome and narcissistic company CEO. He is warned one day that he is going to be murdered. Krystal Jung of K-pop girl group F(x), whose screen career has been heating up and was last seen in Police University , plays Go-jin’s introverted secretary Lee Shin-a, who isn’t noticed by her boss but draws the attention of her colleagues after she survives in the demanding post for over a year. Shin-a also comes to discover that she doesn’t have much time to live. (KBS2, March 7) 2. Kill Heel Originally due out late February, Kill Heel is now being released in early March. The series will explore ruthless and cutthroat ambition in the world of home shopping. At the heart of the show are three women, Woo-hyun (Kim Ha-neul), Ki Mo-ran (Lee Hye-young) and Bae Ok-sun (Kim Sung-ryoung). Woo-hyun is the host of a middle-of-the-road home-shopping show who dreams of more. Mo-ran is the domineering vice-president of the network and Ok-sun is the network’s star shopping-show host, who masks a secret personality behind her bright appearance. (TvN, March 9) 3. A Superior Day Jin Goo of Descendants of the Sun will appear on screens this month as Lee Ho-cheol, an ordinary firefighter who receives a tip from a stranger that his neighbour is in fact the heinous serial killer whose slayings have been dominating news headlines. Based on the webtoon of the same name, A Superior Day chronicles a thrilling 24-hour period as Ho-cheol is forced to kill his neighbour to save his kidnapped daughter. Lee Won-keun ( One the Woman ) plays the killer, while Ha Do-kwon of The Penthouse is the mysterious stranger. (OCN, March 12) 4. The King of Pigs Though known worldwide for Train to Busan , Yeon Sang-ho was first a director of dark adult animated films and his debut, the searing school-bullying treatise The King of Pigs , is getting the drama remake treatment this month. Kim Dong-wook ( You Are My Spring ) and Kim Sung-kyu ( One Ordinary Day ) appear as two men who knew each other at school and now meet again 20 years later owing to a mysterious series of vicious murders. The mystery drives them back to traumatic memories of school bullying in their past. (TvN, March 18) 5. Why Her After You Are My Spring , Seo Hyun-jin is back on screens as Oh Soo-jae, a star lawyer who becomes her firm’s youngest partner. Her life comes crashing down one day when one of her cases takes an unexpected turn, which sees her demoted at work and forced to take an adjunct professor job at a local law school. There she meets warm-hearted student Gong Chan (Hwang In-yeop, True Beauty ), who shares an unfortunate connection with her. Yet despite this, the pair grow closer, even as Soo-jae struggles to win her way back to her firm. (SBS, March 18) 6. Soundtrack #1 Han So-hee and Park Hyung-sik join forces in this limited-series romance as a young woman and man who have been friends for two decades, but after sharing the same roof for just two weeks, find the boundaries between love and friendship begin to blur. Park plays the confident and attractive young photographer Han Sun-woo, while Han is Seo Eun-soo, an outgoing and forthright lyricist who doesn’t mince words when it comes to how she feels. Their developing bond begins to inspire the lyrics of Eun-soo’s compositions. (Disney+, March 23) 7. Pachinko Min-jin Lee’s bestselling book Pachinko is the basis of a lavish international production on Apple TV+. Korean-American indie darlings Justin Chon ( Blue Bayou ) and Kogonada ( After Yang ) share directing duties on this history-spanning tale of a Korean immigrant family that takes place across four generations in Korea, Japan and the United States. Leading the cast are Academy Award-winner Youn Yuh-jung ( Minari ), global star Lee Min-ho ( Legend of the Blue Sea ), Jin Ha ( Devs ) and new face Kim Min-ha. (Apple TV+, March 25) 8. Tomorrow After The King’s Affection , Rowoon from K-pop boy band SF9 leads the new MBC drama Tomorrow as Choi Joon-woong, a top school graduate from a prestigious family who is finding it hard to land a job. One night he accidentally crosses paths with two angels of death who belong to a crisis management team whose job is to prevent people from committing suicide. Kim Hee-son of Alice plays the lead angel of death Gu Ryeon in this adaptation of the webtoon of the same name. (MBC, March 25)
