This week’s K-drama casting announcements promise a mix of fantasy, horror and romance for our future television schedules. Rising star Ahn Eun-jin appears particularly busy, with two new shows announced. Here is our latest round-up of drama series casting news. 1. Death’s Game Seo In-guk and Park So-dam have been approached to appear together in the coming fantasy drama Death’s Game . Based on a webtoon of the name, Death’s Game is a reincarnation story about a man who loses everything in life and decides to commit suicide. Little does he know that his decision has angered Death, who comes before him in the form of a woman and proposes a game in which he will return 13 times in the bodies of people on the verge of their own deaths. Seo, who has been offered the leading role – which was originally intended for Kang Ha-neul – was recently seen in the drama Cafe Minamdang as well as the film Project Wolf Hunting , which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. 8 new Korean drama series to look out for in January 2023 Parasite actress Park’s last drama series appearance was in Record of Youth . She has since been seen in the film Special Delivery , and has a role in the Lunar New Year action-drama Phantom , out this week in Korea. Death’s Game is expected to air on JTBC. 2. Lover After wrapping up the legal drama One Dollar Lawyer , Namgoong Min has his sights set on period drama in the form of the coming MBC historical series Lover , in which he will co-star with Ahn Eun-jin of Hospital Playlist . The romantic drama will take place against the backdrop of Korea’s Joseon dynasty (1392-1910) and Namgoong is set to play Lee Jang-hyun, a man who swears off love after two failed marriages. One day, he appears as a mysterious aristocrat in Neunggeun Village and, despite his listless attitude towards life, finds himself attracted to Yoo Gil-chae. Played by Ahn, Gil-chae is the second eldest daughter of a noble family. She possesses a much stronger will to live than Jang-hyun and also has a very high opinion of herself, believing that any man would fall for her. Lover is expected to air at some point in the second half of this year. 3. The Sense Kim Yo-han of the K-pop outfit Wei and Minari actress Han Ye-ri have both been offered roles in the coming occult-themed series The Sense , which is rumoured to be going to Netflix. Set at the Shinyoung Catholic High School, The Sense follows the story of a suspicious teacher and students who can interact with the dead, an ability that brings them face to face with an evil spirit that has awoken after 10 years of slumber. Teacher and students must team up to capture this supernatural force. Kim, who is ramping up his acting career, recently appeared in Mouse and School 2021 . Han, who was recognised for her role in the acclaimed immigration drama Minari , last graced the screen in the dark thriller series Hometown . The series will be directed by Inspector Koo ’s Lee Jung-heum. 4. Bad Mother While we wait for his return in part two of The Glory , Lee Do-hyun is already working on a new project, having confirmed his appearance alongside Ra Mi-ran and Ahn Eun-jin in the JTBC drama Bad Mother . This heart-warming drama will follow a woman forced by circumstance to become a “bad mother”, and her son who becomes a child again following an incident. Together, they must find a way to claw their way back to happiness. Ra, previously seen in Honest Candidate, will play the role of the mother, Young-soon, who does everything she can to protect her child and who runs a pig farm while raising him. Lee is on board as her son, Kang-ho, a proficient prosecutor who experiences an accident which turns him back into a child. Ahn will play Kang-ho’s long-time friend, the big-hearted Mi-joo. Bad Mother is the latest series from Shim Na-yeon, who directed the acclaimed serial-killer drama Beyond Evil . 5. My Heart Is Beating Ok Taec-yeon, of the K-pop boy band 2PM, and Won Ji-an have been confirmed as the main leads of the forthcoming KBS2 series My Heart Is Beating , a horror-romance expected to air in the second half of the year. Park Eun-bin considers romantic comedy role – K-drama casting latest Ok will play Soon Woo-hyul, a man who is born half-human and half-vampire and is unable to become completely human. Won, recently seen in the KBS2 series If You Wish Upon Me , will play Joo In-hae, a part-time nurse who runs the guest house that Woo-hyul winds up staying at. After growing up in poverty, she has grown a thick skin and does not easily let people in, until she gets to know Woo-hyul. Ok played a popular villain in Vincenzo last year and has since graduated to leading man roles, appearing in Secret Royal Inspector & Joy and Blind .
