Given the glut of shows that launched over the past few weeks, the first half of the July schedule is unusually bare. But fear not – another bunch will be heating up our screens just in time for the summer holidays at the end of the month.

Here are previews of six of the top K-dramas debuting in July.

1. Shadow Detective season two

Lead cast: Lee Seung-min, Kyung Soo-jin, Lee Hak-joo

Lee Seung-min’s grizzled detective Kim Taek-rok is back in a fresh season of eight episodes of Shadow Detective.

Following the dramatic conclusion of season one, which saw him unmask and dispatch the villain played by Jin Goo, Taek-rok may have thought his troubles were over. However, his phone starts ringing once more with calls from his tormentor, known only as “friend”.
Kyung Soo-jin and Lee Hak-joo are back as his fellow detectives, while joining the cast are Kim Shin-rok (Beyond Evil) and Jung Jin-young (Chief of Staff). (Disney+, July 5)
