South Korean media has long had a troubled relationship with mental illness. In recent years, drama series have attempted to start a dialogue about it, among them 2023’s Daily Dose of Sunshine and a show currently screening, Doctor Slump.

Many such shows have reductively attributed mental health issues to environmental factors such as work and family stress, but at least they have been a step in the right direction.
