Aespa’s music video for their debut song, Black Mamba, made history on Friday as the fastest debut track from any K-pop group to surpass 100 million views on YouTube.

The group’s debut single arrived on November 17, and hit the milestone 51 days later.

The previous holder was Itzy’s 2019 debut single Dalla Dalla, which hit the milestone 57 days after its release.

The Post reached out to YouTube to confirm the count but was unable to confirm at the time of publication.

In a statement, Aespa collectively said: “We were absolutely delighted to hear that our Black Mamba music video reached more than 100 million views. It’s very meaningful to have achieved this with our debut song. We’d like to thank all our fans for their incredible love and support. In 2021, we’ll continue to bring great music and bright energy and we hope everyone looks forward to it.”
Aespa - the group’s name is stylised in all lower-case letters - are a new K-pop act from South Korean music company SM Entertainment, and the company’s first new female act since Red Velvet launched in 2014. The group has four members – Winter, Karina, Ningning and Giselle – who have four virtual counterparts, known as the “ae” members.

The group’s debut marked SM Entertainment’s launch of its own creative universe, similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The music video for Black Mamba and the lyrics relay this narrative, and showcase the act’s powerful charisma.

Aespa are expected to follow up their debut single with additional music in 2021.
