Sometimes a musical group’s talent is noticed immediately and sometimes it takes a while. Boy band Victon fall into the latter category.

In the competitive world of K-pop, the seven members of Victon have shown their worth since the release of their first EP in 2016. But it wasn’t until 2019, when some members competed on the South Korean television show Produce X 101 – and one, Han Seungwoo, won a slot in the short-lived boy band X1, and then showed his artistry on stand-out 2020 solo EP Fame – that all eyes turned to them.

The group’s first LP, Voice: The Future Is Now, arrived on January 11 after plans to release it at the end of 2020 were delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. With 13 tracks, including solos from Seungsik, Chan, Sejun, and Hanse, the album is both sleekly produced and also contemplative, with the members ruminating on their careers and the ups and downs of life.

The members of Victon answered questions from the Post at the end of 2020 ahead of the release of Voice: The Future is Now, sharing their thoughts and hopes for the album, and showing the bond between them.

How do you feel ahead of the album’s release?

Chan: it was unfortunate that we had to delay the album because of Covid-19. We’re sorry that we had to push it back and we can’t meet our fans. We practised a lot so we’re regretting this situation. For us, this album is really meaningful because all of the seven members took part in the production. Subin, for example, worked on composition and solos, and there are solo tracks from four members too, so we’re really looking forward to this release.
