Anonymous Hong Kong collector snaps up ultra-rare Lamborghini Sesto Elemento
Only 20 of the super lightweight carbon-fibre supercars will be made, and the owner can’t even drive his on public roads in Hong Kong
A Hong Kong automobile collector has taken delivery of an exclusive new Lamborghini supercar of which only 20 will be made and is estimated to cost more than HK$25 million.
The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento has been built using advanced carbon-fibre technologies developed in partnership with US aerospace company Boeing. The supercar is extremely light, weighing just 999kg, enabling it to reach 100km/h in just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 300km/h.
A spokesman for Kingsway Motors, Lamborghini’s long-time distributor in Hong Kong, says the buyer can not be named, but is known to be a keen car collector.
“In Hong Kong we have a serious and loyal customer database. We are trying to give priority [for the Sesto Elemento] to our existing customers,” a Lamborghini spokesman told the Post at the time.
He said the car would cost about 1.6 million euros. However, there have been reports that a buyer in the UK had paid £2.3 million (HK$27.6 million) for the car. Lamborghini Hong Kong could not confirm the price.
Sesto Elemento, Italian for sixth element, refers to the atomic number of carbon. The car’s monocoque – which includes the seat and roof – body panels, wheels and exhaust pipes are all crafted from carbon fibre.
The Sesto Elemento is powered by a naturally-aspirated V10 engine with an output of 570 horsepower.
The buyer will not be able to register the Sesto Elemento for use on the roads in Hong Kong, however, because it was developed purely as a track car.
