Shenzhen’s debut One Love festival brings 60 DJs to city
International line-up for three days of house, techno and drum’n’bass
Dance music followers from across southern China will descend on Shenzhen this weekend for the region’s first festival devoted to the sound.
The debut One Love festival will present more than 60 DJs from China and overseas on three stages, playing a range of styles such as house, techno and drum ’n’ bass. The event, which runs non-stop from Friday to Sunday night, is taking place in iD Town, a former factory district 40 kilometres east of the Lowu border crossing that has been redeveloped into an arts and cultural venue.
“Shenzhen’s electronic music scene has been growing quickly. There is a thriving scene of outdoor events and warehouse parties, and some clubs are finally playing quality music. After organising dance parties for up to 800 people, the next logical step is a festival with more DJs, bigger sound systems and more guests - and all that spread over a whole weekend,” says Sebastian Bueckle of The Real Deal.
“The venue can hold at least 10,000 people so we have plenty of room to grow in the future. It’s spread over 80,000 square metres, so people can explore abandoned buildings and even pitch tents and camp wherever they feel like.”
The headline performers will be Technasia - the dance music production project of Frenchman Charles Siegling, who launched his career in Hong Kong in the 1990s - and acclaimed Japanese techno producer/DJ Shin Nishimura. Other notable performers include Taiwanese DJ Elvis T, mainland artists Yang Bing and Ben Huang, and Hong Kong DJs Frankie Lam and Jeremy Cheung.
The festival - which opens at 8pm on November 6 and ends at 8pm on November 8 - will also feature a food street, cinema, DJ workshops, and hammock and massage areas, while a beach is just a short walk from the site.
