The trend of travellers seeking private rooms, apartments and houses to stay in continues to surge. Airbnb attributes much of the growth to visitors seeking a more authentic experience living like a local in their chosen destination.

The lodging website recently documented the fastest growing neighbourhoods for rentals around the world, including one in Japan that saw a 7,000 per cent increase in renters between 2014 and 2015 (Airbnb only included destinations with a minimum of 50 guests in 2014).
