Hong Kong’s tourism industry is suffering its worst downturn in more than a decade as anti-government protests, now in their 17th week, continue to rock the city.

Tourist numbers are down – dropping 40 per cent in August from the same time last year, according to Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po.

As a way to boost the sagging industry some hotels are offering staycation packages to city residents.
