If you’re looking for a reason to visit Hong Kong’s M+ museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District for reasons besides the art itself, then look no further. The museum of visual culture and collaborators including the athletic apparel store Lululemon will provide health- and wellness-focused experiences this summer, under the themes “Good Health”, “Good Food”, “Good Mind” and “Good Neighbour”. M+ director Suhanya Raffel says that the “M+ You. Care for Good” programme “aims at promoting well-being and sustainable living in [Hong Kong] communities as the world’s post-Covid recovery takes off”. The “Good Neighbour” portion of the programme consists of a three-day festival of workshops, live-music performances, bus tours and drop-in events, all designed to “reunite and reconnect [participants] with each other”. “Community Festival: Joining Hands” – wherein “creative practitioners from various fields will introduce different ways to explore our surroundings, inspiring everyone to maintain an open mind towards change” – runs from June 17-19. M+ and Lululemon’s collaboration centres around health, and will offer 12 one-hour classes – including strength, yoga, HIIT ( high-intensity interval training ) and crystal bowl meditation sessions – to the public. The classes will be held in either the Horizon Terrace or The Forum at M+. Starting on June 25 and running until late July, the classes will be led by Lululemon “ambassadors” – experienced trainers and coaches – on Saturdays and Sundays, in either English or Cantonese. They will cost HK$360 (US$46) and can be booked through the M+ website. Yoga mats and other equipment will be provided for use during the classes. “We recognise the path to well-being is easier with the right support,” says Lululemon senior vice-president Gareth Pope. “Through launching the ‘Lululemon & M+ Be Well Experience’, we look forward to offering an exclusive, fresh and interactive experience for guests of all ages and fitness levels to embark on a holistic well-being journey together.” The Yama Foundation – a Hong Kong-based charity that makes activities such as yoga, art and meditation accessible to everyone – will also be involved, providing a chair yoga session with Lululemon for people with inflexibility or mobility challenges, to be hosted at M+. Under the “Good Food” theme, the museum will host a pop-up shop for Farm 66, an agricultural tech company that promotes sustainable living, development and farming. Seeds and plants will be on sale and Farm 66’s patented aquaponic farming ecosystem will be on display. The “Good Mind” aspect of the programme will consist of a recorded performance by artist Ellen Pau . The Shape of Light , co-commissioned by M+ and Art Basel, was intended to offer those who watched it “a space of healing”. The recording of the three-hour odyssey features interplay between sci-fi animation, live-action performances and even Buddhist scriptures. The video is available to watch free of charge through the M+ website until July 17.
