Top 5 videos of the week: From Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog's break-up to skydivers' world record

Samantha Lui
Every Saturday, the South China Morning Post presents its top video picks from SCMP.tv and the web, highlighting news, features, mini-documentaries and more.

This week, we marvel at a group of skydivers' world-record-breaking stunt and learn of the sad news of Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog's break-up.

Thai police officers show off their groove

Is there a new boy band on the block? Well, this group of hip-shaking, suave breakdancers are actually Thai police officers performing a routine at the annual Thai armed forces sports day. This video has since racked up more than a million hits on YouTube. But, of course with those moves, how could it not go viral?

164 skydivers break world record with flower formation

Traveling at a swift 286 kilometres per hour, 164 skydivers joined forces and broke the world record for the largest-ever vertical skydiving formation. The vertigo-inducing feat took the international team 13 attempts before achieving the record. The team successfully smashed the 2012 mark set by 138 skydivers and stunned onlookers with the sight of their flower formation.

Lion King animator creates a tribute to Cecil the lion

News of the killing of Cecil the lion by a hunting-avid American dentist last month made headlines around the world and touched former Disney animator Aaron Blaise, who took to the drawing board and created a tribute to the beloved animal.

The video captures, from start to finish, Blaise's drawing of Cecil as he created it on Photoshop. With the process being sped up, we get to see the makings of Blaise's gorgeous artwork from its early stages as a sketch to the end product, complete with vivid colours. On why he decided to create the image, Blaise explained on his website: "When I heard the news about Cecil, I got inspired to create a tribute image. It’s not much but hopefully it will make people think."

Stunt driver surfs Tahitian waves with a dirt bike

This four-minute video is one heck of a ride. Set in the tropical island of Tahiti, stunt driver Robbie Maddison lived out a dream as he surfed some heavy waves on his dirt bike. Maddison is not new to dangerous stunts. Previously, he's ridden to the top of France's Arc de Triomphe and leaped over the Corinth Canal in Greece.

With over 12 million hits already, this video is also stunning to watch as it makes us want to go to Tahiti for a relaxing vacation. Be sure to view it on a full screen!

The Muppets' Kermit and Miss Piggy announce split

This year has been a hard one for true love. First, it was Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck. Now, it's Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy who are calling it quits.

The two Muppets announced their split earlier this week on social media after 40 years together. "After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship," the two said in a released statement on their Twitter accounts

But if fans are afraid of missing their hilarious dynamic, they can stop worrying. The pair will continue working together on the reboot of The Muppets TV show coming this September. Excuse us as we mourn the end of what we thought was a beautiful relationship...
