For a quick bite, head to (tel: 2878 7787) on Hollywood Road. The interior is a cross between an old-school train carriage and an American diner, with friendly staff dressed for the part, and Bruce Springsteen tunes playing in the background.
The menu features various hamburgers, such as the circus classic (below, HK$70) - a basic 5oz (140 gram) patty with iceberg lettuce, tomato and "circus sauce".
Buffalo wings (HK$88) have a spiciness that goes well with the blue cheese dip, but are messy to eat. We love the onion rings (HK$38) that have the perfect ratio of batter to onion and are not too greasy. However, half a kosher dill pickle for HK$18 seems unreasonable.
For dessert, the banana cream pie (HK$88) is not too sweet, with the taste of ripe bananas coming through under the generous dollop of whipped cream and ice cream. Unfortunately, we didn't like the wooden forks we were given to tackle this dessert, which disintegrated on the plate.
The house-made sodas (HK$38), including mandarin creamsicle and passion fruit pineapple, are refreshing.
