a delicate summer palette of pinks and nudes with contrasting tones to illuminate the eyes. Can be used with mascara for a feminine look, or combined with black kohl for a more intense effect.

Claim: a collection of eight shades that range from feminine nudes to dramatic shimmering midnight blue and black. A special wet/dry brush allows you to tailor the look for day or night.

Benefit's pots of cream eyeshadow can be applied easily with your fingers if you're in a rush, and last fairly well throughout the day, even in hot weather. The application tips are useful, and the dry shadow blends well with the cream ones, though the overall effect is little too sparkly for a natural daytime look. Nars' palette has a beautiful range of flattering shades, and the brush is a nice extra, allowing you to create a smoky, long-wearing look. Our favourite, however, was the luxuriously packaged Dolce & Gabbana palette: the shadows are so smooth, they feel creamy, the colours work perfectly together, and the shimmer is more subtle.
