Restaurant review: Timon Seafood Tapas Bar & Restaurant, Wan Chai

Fantastic sardines, sweet spicy clams, and well-textured Iberico pork were notable features of our meal. Onions feature prominently in several dishes.

about HK$375 without drinks or the service charge.

the downstairs area has counter seating, while the small space upstairs has tiny tables and chairs.

the rich, fatty, raw Mediterranean sardines (HK$48 each), served on toast with delicious, smoky-tasting pickled onions, were fantastic. Cod fish croquettes (three for HK$88) were hot and crisp, with plenty of the salted fish, but we couldn't taste any artichoke in the accompanying dip. Spicy clams cooked in manzanilla (HK$128) were fresh and sweet, with delicious onions in a light sauce. Garlic prawns with white wine sauce (HK$98) were succulent. The grilled Iberico pork shoulder loin (HK$168) was served rare. The thinly sliced meat, served tepid, had a great texture, and the chimichurri sauce was bright and refreshing.

onions are used in copious amounts, but we liked them every way the chef prepared them.

the only dish we didn't really like was the grilled whole squid (HK$88). It was a little dull, but the pieces of reserva Iberico bellota ham scattered on top improved the flavour.

Timon is on the other side of Ship Street — past Queen's Road East, and away from all the other restaurants such as 22 Ships and Akrame.
