Restaurant review: Australia Dairy Company, Jordan - heavenly eggs and toast

Australia Dairy Company in Jordan is a place my cousins and I used to visit after staying overnight at our grandmother's just a few blocks away.

Now we're all adults, and sleeping together on the tiled floor isn't as fun as it once was, but we still get a craving for the scrambled eggs at this busy cha chaan teng. It has a simple yet flexible menu, so no matter what time you go, you can always get its version of an all-day breakfast.

The waiters are efficient, although some might see them as rude and unfriendly as they shout quite a bit. The food is nothing fancy, but that's what comfort food is.

My favourite is the afternoon combo (HK$30), available from noon until 11pm, which is so filling that it keeps you running for hours. The bed of creamy, fluffy scrambled eggs (or you can order sunny side-ups), served with two slices of ham and a piece of buttered toast, has always been the star. The thick and airy toast - and you have to specify that they need to toast it - is crunchy on the outside but still soft and moist inside.

The afternoon combo also comes with a plate of spaghetti or macaroni, with slices of char siu, and a drink. The smooth steamed milk and steamed egg custard are also famous, although I'm not a big fan of the latter.
