... one holiday this winter, I would spend it in the place I still consider home, New York City. This is despite the freakishly cold recent weather that has descended on the city. My husband and I grew up in warm climates, he in Zimbabwe, me in the southeast of the United States, before we moved to New York. Though we enjoy the mild Hong Kong winters, we still find ourselves longing for the streets to be blanketed with snow, and bundling up in hats, gloves and scarves. Perhaps global warming will bring our adopted city a dusting of the white stuff one of these winters. Crazier things have happened.
