Film review: Delete My Love has a plethora of stars, but its humour is too broad

DELETE MY LOVE
Starring: Wong Cho-lam, Ivana Wong Yuen-chi, Michael Hui Koon-man
Director: Patrick Kong Pak-leung
Category: IIA (Cantonese)
If movies could get by on star power alone, then Delete My Love would be a roaring success. After all, this is a film whose cast members include Canto-pop luminary Ivana Wong Yuen-chi, veteran actresses Nancy Sit Ka-yin and Yuen Qiu, along with comic legend Michael Hui Koon-man.
But their admirers should be aware that in director-writer Patrick Kong Pak-leung's offering, all these big names — along with those portraying characters that call to mind Tony Stark in Iron Man, and Andy Lau Tak-wah's motorbike rider in A Moment of Romance — play second fiddle to the diminutive Wong Cho-lam, a flamboyant funnyman whose brand of comedy is best appreciated in small doses.
A film with a fantastical premise, Delete My Love centres on a miserable character named So Po-wing (Wong Cho-lam), who people call So Boring. An employee at Get Rich Now Consultants,he has to contend with devious colleagues who steal his ideas, and a demanding boss (Hui) who's far from impressed by his output.
His troubles continue outside the office. Although he has a loving girlfriend in Bobo Chung (Ivana Wong) and loyal friend in Wah Dee (Alex Fong Lik-sun), their ways annoy Po-wing; Bobo is a major hypochondriac, while Wah Dee has a tendency to get Po-wing into trouble. On top of it all, his mother (Yuen) and siblings look on him as a cash cow.
