More than a year after it first launched at Lane Crawford, American retailer J. Crew has opened not one, but two boutiques in the city.
Interestingly, both stores showcase completely different merchandise to Lane Crawford (which will still carry an edited selection), with one dedicated to women and the other to men.
The bigger of the two, located at IFC Mall, features the retailer's higher-priced women's collection line which showcases twice a year at New York Fashion Week. It's only fitting that the 3,250 sq ft space is intimate and elegant (much like its sister store on Madison Avenue) with art-covered walls and wood panelling. Inside you'll find more desirable pieces from their Italian cashmere to popular collaboration items such as Point Sur Denim and their latest shoe collection by hip British designer Sophia Webster. Other lifestyle items include jewellery by Lulu Frost, RMS beauty and Sachajuan hair products.
Over at On Lan Street is the men's shop which covers three floors of prime real estate. The interior is cool and casual with wood flooring, high ceilings and ladders laying against the walls. Each floor offers a different men's experience. The ground floor has a good variety of men's suiting and denim, the first floor carries the retailer's range of collaboration items, called "In Good Company," while the top floor is devoted to their popular Ludlow Shop which features suits and shirts.
Shoe lovers also have plenty from which to choose, including limited edition pieces from Vans, New Balance and Alfred Sargent, all hand-picked for the local market.
Both stores offer a VIP programme with special services such as home or office delivery, monogramming, alterations and complimentary appointments with in-house stylists.
