Table talk: Gaia Gaja at Fook Lam Moon; Burkhard Bacher at Café Causette

Gaia Gaja of the famous Italian wine producers Gaja will host a dinner on May 29 at Fook Lam Moon in Tsim Sha Tsui. The meal includes pan-fried king prawns with soy sauce (above) paired with the Gaja Ca'Marcanda Promis 2011; stir-fried diced premium beef cubes with garlic with the Ca'Marcanda Carmacanda 2004; and braised whole Yoshihama abalone (30 heads) with dried mushrooms and vegetables with the Costa Russi 2006. Hutong restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a Sunday brunch with free-flow Veuve Clicquot champagne. The Grand Hyatt in Wan Chai will have a dinner on June 5 featuring the wines of Domaine Grand Veneur in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The five-course dinner is HK$1,588 plus 10 per cent and includes Maine lobster with sauce homardine paired with the Domaine Grand Veneur Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge vintages 2011 and 2005; and dry-aged USDA prime strip loin with the estate's Les Origines Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge vintages 2010 and 2001. Burkhard Bacher from the Michelin one-star Kleine Flamme in Sterzing, Italy, will be guest chef at Café Causette at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong in Central from June 3 to 8. The chef's Italian dishes, available à la carte and on two- and three-course set dinners (HK$498 plus 10 per cent and HK$598, respectively), include pan-seared scallops with chilli polenta, Sicilian caponata and salsa verde; risotto with scampi sauce, shrimp and marinated asparagus; and fritto misto with vegetables and fruits served with saffron mayonnaise.
