Price: about 290 patacas without drinks or the service charge.
Ambience: it's an impressively large and colourful split-level space with an open kitchen. The overhead televisions showed (with sound off) ice hockey and what looked like a Hindi soap opera.
Recommended dishes: from the Jain selection, hing dal tadka (88 patacas) shows that you don't need to depend on aromatics such as onion and garlic to make good food; the dish of yellow lentils, asafetida, cumin and clarified butter was light but flavourful. Jhinga balchao (228 patacas) were three succulent tiger prawns cooked with pungent dry shrimp paste, but the fragrant coconut rice on the plate almost stole the show. We requested the mallard duck breast with star anise, cashew nuts and coconut milk (128 patacas) to be cooked medium-rare, but only one piece was.

The medium-rare piece was more moist (as you'd expect), but both were well-flavoured. Dessert of gulkaand jamun (68 patacas) was light in texture and flavoured with just the right amount of rose and cardamom.
Pros: the menu is divided into vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain.
Cons: the chairs are too low for the table. The vegetarian platter (108 patacas) didn't taste that impressive: the pastry for the samosa was dry; and neither the makhmali mushroom nor the Kashmiri mirchi ka paneer tikka were memorable. The non-vegetarian platter (136 patacas) was better: we liked the tender kandari murgh tikka (organic chicken flavoured with cumin, coriander seed and Kashmiri chicken). The hand-chopped lamb kebab came second, but none of us liked the dry tiger prawn.
What else? The restaurant has a one-star rating by the Michelin Guide.
