Baked prawns with French mustard seed and honey lemon sauce at Eighteen Sharp

It can be disconcerting when you're the only diners in a restaurant. This was the case when we visited Eighteen Sharp (tel: 2153 3366), a Chinese dining room opened by luxury watch brand Franck Muller in its new flagship store across from Times Square.

The space has a contemporary feel, and the restaurant offers three set menus at HK$680, HK$880 and HK$1,888. The menu has some Cantonese dishes as well as intriguing combinations such as baked prawns with French mustard seed and honey lemon sauce (above), deep-fried salad oyster roll with minty guava dressing, and steamed egg white with soya milk, crab roe and XO sauce.

While the restaurant has been officially open for more than a week, we couldn't help but feel that almost every dish lacked something - mostly flavour. The only one we thoroughly enjoyed was the double-boiled yellow cucumber soup with geoduck and clams.

As the only guests on a Friday evening we had great service, but diners might have a better time downstairs at the Italian-themed Francesco by Franck Muller (tel: 2153 3136).

Meanwhile, Quayside Harbour Front Restaurant & Bar (tel: 2661 6708) has opened at Fenwick Pier (replacing the Quarterdeck Club), and offers "a casual international menu featuring a distinctive French bistro influence".
