Restaurant review: Texas Burger, Tin Hau - burgers with brio
I'm glad my friends arrived early to grab a table at this new but already popular burger joint, as it was packed when I arrived at 7.30pm. The ambience is casual and energetic, accentuated by the pink neon shop logo and Texas cowboy-themed mural.
There is a choice of eight burgers, including the pulled pork burger with sweet and spicy sauce (HK$76) and the veggie burger (HK$75), which is a house-made vegetarian patty served with horseradish and tomato mayo. For an extra HK$18, you get a generous helping of addictive French fries, mustard seed pickles, citrus slaw and a soft drink (or milkshake for a further HK$15).
We shared the Texas barbecue burger (above, HK$79) and Mexican prawn burger (HK$82), and each had its own fans. While some of us liked the layered flavours and textures of the Texas burger, with its juicy patty, crunchy bacon, onion ring and smoked jalapeno sauce, others preferred the deep-fried prawn cake and avocado pairing. I like the fact that they make their own sauces and pay attention to details such as the roast poppy seed bun for burgers that need a little something extra.
Served with Cajun seasoning or jalapeno barbecue sauce, the deep-fried chicken wings (HK$48 for four pieces, HK$88 for eight) were delicious. We loved the milkshakes — the trilogy of chocolate (HK$45) is a rich treat.
We can't say the same for the soggy smoked salmon and poached egg salad (HK$53) or the chicken tikka masala with rice (HK$63), which had tough meat.
