Arts preview: Nitro Circus will take it to the limit at the Venetian Macao

Motorsports star Travis Pastrana's worst injury sounds horrendous — when he was 15 years old, he almost bled to death after his spinal column became dislocated from his pelvis. Most people would have given up at that point, but Pastrana persevered to become arguably the most successful rider in the history of X Games freestyle motocross.

"There are big risks involved in action sports and, for a lot of people, the reward isn't big enough to justify them. But for me it always has been. Action sports appeal to me because of the freedom that comes with testing the boundaries, both physically and mentally," says Pastrana.

"My injuries were really rough, but they made me appreciate how important every day is, and inspired me to never let a day go by without making the best of it. I'm proud of being able to wake up every morning with a smile on my face, surrounded by like-minded people, and being in a position to challenge myself."

The 30-year-old has become an inspiration to extreme sports enthusiasts, especially since he founded action sports collective Nitro Circus in 2008.
