Grilled watermelon steak with charred flavour at Risi e Bisi

(tel: 2824 3009) in Kau U Fong in Central describes itself as an Italian lounge bar in a long, narrow space. The menu items are meant for sharing, although they are pricy for the tiny plates. What was described as "the Prada" of buffalo mozzarella with cherry tomatoes (HK$115) was not exceptional, while the bamboo clams with oil and chilli (HK$120) were slightly overcooked.

We enjoyed the rustic strozzapreti pasta with house-made sausage and fennel, and the risi e bisi - risotto with veal cheek and peas, but both were very small even for one person, at HK$135 and HK$120 respectively.

A favourite was the grilled watermelon steak with charred flavour (above). When we asked for extra plates, we were encouraged to eat directly from the plates and bowls, which was awkward.

The selection of cocktails, craft beers and wines isn't strictly Italian.

In Quarry Bay, The News Room is now called (tel: 2562 3444) and serves American comfort food such as hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and breakfast items such as pancakes and waffles.

Look out for a hotdog called "the dirty Mexican", topped with spicy pulled pork, cheese and chipotle sauce, and the traditional Philly cheese steak sandwich, and house-made doughnuts.
