Gordon Ramsay's (tel: 2230 1800) has had its soft opening, and it's like a thoroughbred raring to race. We finished a salad and two main courses in less than an hour - is this restaurant meant to be fast food? Some of the tomatoes in the heirloom tomatoes with burrata cheese (HK$118) were unripe. Steamed snapper (HK$208) was perfectly cooked, but had no flavour without the shellfish dressing. The signature burger (HK$158) was delicious, although it was cold by the time we ate it. For dessert, the pineapple carpaccio (above, HK$78) is refreshing and the banana sticky toffee pudding (HK$88) really hit the spot.
Next to Yardbird on Bridges Street in Sheung Wan is a new American eatery called (tel: 2858 1321), which doesn't have its liquor licence yet.
Prices are astronomical for this small place, where diners sit on hard barstools. The best dish was the deep-fried pig's ear nachos, with cherry fennel salsa. It's perfect with beer - but HK$168? The same goes for the deep-fried sweet corn croquettes (HK$168). The hog nuggets (HK$188) were dry despite the beet ketchup. Staff repeatedly urged us to order carrot salad five ways (HK$168), but we were turned off by the hard sell. There was nothing gooey about the St Louis gooey bars (HK$88) that we dipped into a glass of rice milk.
