Beauty Fix: Hollywood Edition wax

TIFFANY AP

It may be October but we've still got a few weeks of warm weather to come, which means bikinis and therefore a well-groomed situation down south. Honeypot Wax Boutique, a Singaporean brand with outlets in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, has recently launched their first outlet in Central. The salon offers all sorts of facial and body waxing and more permanent treatments such as IPL hair removal. The products have been concocted by chemists in Australia and are all formulated without animal testing.

I try the Hollywood Edition wax, which is an all-off Brazilian style. You can also request a heart shape (HK$465), a triangle or a landing strip (both HK$450), the latter being the most requested. Leave your boyfriends at home because no men are allowed. It's a rule imposed so women can truly relax, I'm told.

I'm led into a hot pink room which instantly makes me feel as if I've walked into the vajazzling scene from . Everything including the walls, the towels and even the hard wax is Barbie pink and smells like cherry pie. It's kitschy but it doesn't bother me much because the therapist Prayna is wonderful. She's knowledgeable, sweet and chats to me throughout the process, giving me tips on how to prevent pesky ingrown hairs — so much better than the usual awkward silence while someone is peering at your bits. She mercifully waxes in small sections of 5cm to 8cm at a time, good for those with a low pain threshold. I'm out in half an hour and the treatment is one of the least painful waxing experiences I've had.

I'm shown Honeypot's in-house post-treatment care line, which includes a minty aloe jello to soothe any feeling of heat, ingrown hair treatment spray formulated with salicylic acid, lactic acid, allantoin and amica and a product to even out any discolouration. My sole complaint is the products smell sickly artificially sweet, like perfume you might have used as a tween, and I can imagine the extra fragrance irritating the sensitive skin further. Honeypot's hot pink sassy decor and vibe may not be everyone's style but that's a small issue given that the service is top notch.
