The Shopper: PMQ Design Market enables new designers to promote their products

Ever since it opened earlier this year, PMQ has been organising events to get the crowds rolling in. While the Night Markets are all about great food and entertainment, the Design Market, which will be held on two Sundays in November, is all about fashion.
Conceived by two fashion consultants, Kim Hoang and Simon Lock, who was one of the founders of the short-lived MasterCard Luxury Week in Hong Kong, Design Market is partially modelled on cultural markets like London's Portobello, or Paddington in Sydney. The idea is to provide a platform for emerging designers and new boutiques to showcase and sell their products on a regular basis (many of the brands or outlets are not available at PMQ).
Lock and his team personally "curate" the selection so the offerings are more chic than street. Each market is held in the courtyard of PMQ with an open-plan set-up. While the event officially starts at 11am, customers are invited to come in an hour earlier and take advantage of a free yoga lesson offered by partner Lululemon.

Once you've stretched your horizons and your body, it's time to shop. Each brand or seller has their own area complete with a makeshift changing room so you can try on clothes in privacy. If you get hungry there is an area dedicated to food and beverage, featuring the latest on the local dining scene such as Mexican favourite Brickhouse and gourmet ice pops by Nice Pops.
There's plenty of shopping on offer, with 13 to 15 designers and several boutiques showcasing their wares. The prices start at about HK$1,000. And who knows, there is a chance you may stumble upon Asia's next big designer.
