Bar review: 270 Degrees Rooftop Bar by Harlan Goldstein

The focus here is not on the bar — which is small and pushed to one corner — as much as the roof itself. It is expansive, dotted with modern lounge furniture, and there is plenty of room to dance. The view, of course, is stunning, overlooking Causeway Bay to the harbour.

Hot-Fire Ball "Ya Baby"

Lady Killer

my friend did not enjoy her Lady Killer (HK$110) a mix of prosecco, lime juice, honey, vodka, and passion fruit, and a second friend agreed saying it tasted of bubblegum. I didn't mind it so much; I liked the big glass and found it to be a sophisticated take on the typical passion fruit cocktail. My Hot-Fire Ball "Ya Baby" (HK$110) was a more unanimous success; we all agreed the combo of Fireball Whisky, bitters, apple and lime juices was spicy, refreshing and packed a nice punch. Another favourite was the Grand St Little Italy (HK$98), a re-imagined Moscow Mule that was perfect on the warm evening. A warning to martini lovers, though my gin martini was well made — if too lemony — it was let down by the olive: mushy, rank and way past its sell-by date. Even recalling it now causes a shudder.

with its sensational space, refreshing and reasonably priced cocktails, 270 should become one of Hong Kong's hottest rooftops. Too bad it didn't open in time for summer, as the space is sure to be chilly in winter.
