A man can never have too many shirts — which is probably why men's shirt specialist Pye opened not one, but two new stores in Central Building. The Hong Kong-based brand, which was resurrected by retail heiress Dee Poon in 2011, opened a store on Pedder Street 30 years ago, so this is a homecoming of sorts, although the new boutiques bear little resemblance to their earlier counterpart.
Designed by award-winning New York architects Leong Leong, both spaces have a modern East-meets-West vibe, and are designed around the tangram (an ancient Chinese puzzle). The motif is present in the furniture and the floors, which feature a cool mix of materials like grey stone, leather and steel.
The first store is dedicated to formalwear, so expect plenty of dress shirts, including the recently launched super luxe 300-thread-count shirt (HK$5,380) which is exclusive to the store. Also look out for the autumn-winter collection, which includes plenty of earthy colours such as jade green, and accessories such as ties by Drake's of London. The second boutique has more of a lifestyle feel, thanks to an assortment of offerings like design products by Fort Standard, Patinova cuff links, candles by Bozu and Nanhai Li and glassware from Seletti.
Women will also find a small collection of pieces ranging from the perfect white shirt (HK$1,380) to a sporty jacket made from a bonded fabric called Inotech (HK$2,880). Also new is the loungewear collection for men and women, which includes cosy essentials such as comfortable sweatshirts and track pants made from ultra-soft cotton.
And if you're wondering why the stores smell so good, it's because they are pumped with a custom-made scent by New York-based scent branding company 12.29. Unfortunately, it's not available for sale, although some candles will be coming soon.
