There's a hiking path on Po Toi that's so overgrown in parts in the summer that it's hard to see, never mind walk on. But venture to Hong Kong's southernmost island in the drier and cooler months, and the Rugged Trail (yes, that's its official name) will reveal itself. Unlike the more well-trodden Po Toi Country Trail on the island's southeast, this path that connects Ngau Wu in the interior with Miu Kok (where Po Toi's Tin Hau Temple is located) on the coast is unpaved and consequently on the scraggy side. Hikers with an aversion to concrete should find this trail to their liking. And the views over the South China Sea are breathtaking. Illustration: Bay Leung
