Why Yvonne Teh, Film Editor, would love to see a vintage Japanese costume drama

Yvonne Teh

If i only had one classic film to see on the big screen this week, it would be Kenji Mizoguchi's . Only 30 of the Japanese master's almost 80 feature-length works have survived to this day. This 1955 costume drama is the first of only two colour films he made. A pioneering Japanese-Hong Kong co-production whose story centres on a Tang dynasty imperial concubine, it's also the first film produced by Run Run Shaw. It is screening at the Hong Kong Film Archive on January 9 as part of its Run Run Shaw: Factory of Dreams retrospective programme.
