The Yuck factor: post-punk revivalists to play Hong Kong in April

While cinephiles will argue there are more coveted film accolades to be had, the Academy Awards remain the main event for most fans of pop culture. But local cinema-goers have been frustrated in years past by the fact that many nominated films didn't hit local screens until well after the Oscars had been handed out.
That has changed this year, with six of the eight best picture nominees already shown here, and the last two ( The Imitation Game and Selma) to get special preview screenings this Friday at Broadway Cinematheque and Sunday at UA Cine Times, respectively. This marks the first time in recent memory that Hongkongers can (legally) watch every best picture nominee ahead of the February 22 awards ceremony. A rep at a local film distributor told 48 Hours the strategy was adopted in response to audience demand.
