Collecting donated hair to create wigs for cancer patients is common elsewhere in the world, but surprisingly few places do this in Hong Kong. Although it doesn't advertise it, CancerLink, a support centre of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund, gladly accepts hair donations. You need a minimum of 20cm-25cm — coloured hair is accepted, preferably not permed. Yoko Lane at Sozo salon (sozohairdesign.com) chopped off my long ponytail and styled my remaining tresses — and the salon in Wyndham Street is within walking distance from CancerLink (unit 3, The Center, 99 Queen's Road Central, tel: 3667 3003).
