Steak Frites by The Butchers Club
UG/F, 52-56 Staunton Street, 2858 9800

Steak Frites does not mince words about its speciality. With just one item - a 12oz, 40-day, dry-aged rib-eye steak with fries for HK$550 - on the dinner menu, and another four SA steak dishes on the "secret menu" (accessible through scanning its Quick Response code), this restaurant is putting all its eggs in one basket.

The steaks, however, are good here. There is a big refrigerator proudly showing the meat to the customers, who can then take photos while the "butcher" cuts the servings.

The meal starts with the wedge salad with a fresh, sweet half-lettuce before the famous dry-aged steak with duck oil chips is served. There is a country farm feel about the steak's outer crust, which is rather like a rugged cousin of British roast beef. This is probably its signature taste as the inside of the beef is rather more customary.
