Hearty steaks at Argentinian steakhouse Pampas

Argentinian steakhouse.

The décor is simple cantina style with closely spaced tables and dim lighting, creating an intimate atmosphere.

A three-course dinner for two with two glasses of wine is about HK$900.

Friends, romantic dates, or anyone who favours meat.

The long list of starters was interesting and varied. We were impressed by the generous portion (definitely for sharing) of the entradas frias mixta, a mixed platter of Parma ham with honey melon, tomato stuffed with tuna, Argentine paté, cheese with olives and salami. But since this is a steakhouse, we eagerly perused the wide selection of grilled meat on the menu, which also featured some fish, poultry and lamb dishes. We were told Pampas sources its prime organic cuts from Argentina and they are flown in fresh, never frozen, to ensure quality. Indeed our main course of parilla mixta, a plate of cuts of sirloin and tenderloin, was well-executed. The meats were grilled perfectly and served with no gimmicks. The rich and juicy flavour of the meats went down well with our glass of Argentine Malbec. This is a good-value joint for hearty eaters looking for a meat-centric meal.

Seating can get crammed once the restaurant fills up.

The large selection of wines from Argentina is worth exploring. Classic cocktails and beers are available.
