CE LA VI
25/F, California Tower, 32 D'Aguilar Street, Central, 3700 2300

Sitting on top of the refurbished California Tower in Lan Kwai Fong is CE LA VI, a three-storey bar-and-restaurant. We started our night on the 25/F lounge area where we sampled delicious cocktails including the signature This is the Life (HK$148). the drink includes pear purée, hibiscus water, rosehip cordial, peach liqueur and a splash of bubbly. For alfresco drinking, opt for the roof.

Downstairs, the dimly lit dining area offers stunning views of the city thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Food wise, the restaurant serves modern Asian fare. For starters, we loved the foie gras French toast served with brioche and an umeshu maple glaze (HK$220) and the toro tartare which came with brioche and a yuzu truffle vinaigrette (HK$295). Both melted in our mouths and had us scrambling for third helpings. The short ribs (HK$270) was a slight hit-and-miss. While we loved the tenderness of the ribs paired with the delectable teriyaki veal jus, we found the wild mushroom ravioli slightly overcooked.

Be sure to save room for dessert as pastry chef Jason Licker has designed numerous desserts to satisfy everyone. Unable to pick just one, we sampled a wide selection. Matcha lovers will be delighted with the molten green tea tart, topped with Valrhona Manjari ice cream (HK$118). We also loved the white chocolate-junmai saké cream (HK$118).
