The owners of Japanese restaurant Kishoku and the recently opened Shoku at The Pulse have opened a third outlet, the upscale steakhouse Primal Cut.

There is a bar area with sports TV channels next to the bar. Walk through the sports bar and you come to the restaurant area and private room. The menu prices are reasonable and the food is good. We tried a delicious starter of beef carpaccio with arugula, onsen egg, parmesan cheese, black truffle and truffle oil (HK$268), and we loved the flavours and the textures of the dish.

We also went for some deep-fried calamari and buffalo organic chicken wings, (both HK$118); deep-fried Mozzarella cheese sticks with home-made chilli; tomato sauce (HK$108); and deep-fried onion fingers with barbeque sauce (HK$98) - all of which did not disappoint. The lobster bisque (HK$148) was smooth and rich and the Caesar salad with crispy parma ham (HK$118) was fresh and spot on.

Our favourite main course was the chargrilled M7 wagyu striploin (HK$538/250g or HK$888/400g), which was done to perfection and melted in the mouth. The linguine with cod, scallops, blue mussels and truffle cream sauce (HK$298) was also a good choice. For dessert, we went for the apple crumble à la mode (HK$118) but you can also order New York-style cheese cake (HK$98), crème brûlée with mixed berries (HK$98) and a cheese platter (HK$148).
