Touch of the classics: The Drawing Room in Central

THE DRAWING ROOM

A newcomer to PMQ's bustling scene is The Drawing Room, which has relocated from its former Causeway Bay location into the space previously occupied by Vasco.

We went for the four-course dinner (HK$798) from its classic and seasonal tasting menus, but each individual dish is also available as an à la carte option.

The night started off on a high note, thanks to the langoustine tartare and the creamy burrata with raw tomato juice and marinated Italian red prawn. Both dishes were extremely flavourful, refreshing and had us going at each other's plates, trying to steal an extra forkful.

Appetisers were followed by the spaghetti mancini with Hokkaido sea urchin and bottarga. While we enjoyed the buttery texture of the uni, the dish was too salty for our taste. The sautéed mammole artichokes with baby spinach and air-dried beef, however, was pleasant.

The main course was veal tagliata with red onion, black garlic and olives. The veal was soft and the accompanying sauce had just the right amount of tanginess. The roasted Black Angus tenderloin with ox tongue, potato purée and mustard sauce also did not disappoint.

For dessert we chose the peaches with cinnamon ice cream on top of coconut rice pudding and the brioche with vanilla ice cream. The cinnamon ice cream was divine and it was such a shame it did not go well with the pudding. The brioche was another highlight of the night, as was the ice cream.

A good selection of wines is also available.
