Shop 12-14, Lower Ground Floor, Jardine House, 1 Connaught Place, Central 3665 0900

Hidden in the basement of Jardine House is Morty's Delicatessen, an authentic New York-style deli, boasting a large menu filled with creative sandwiches, poutines and their own bread.

The 45-seater deli offers sandwich and craft beer pairings for the adventurous - ask the staff for recommendations. We tried the Pelican Umbrella with the Reuben (HK$118), a sandwich stuffed with slow-smoked pastrami, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing and sauerkraut on house rye. The Pelican Umbrella, a craft beer from Portland, Oregon, is slightly bitter yet refreshing, complementing the sourness of the sauerkraut from the Reuben.

Little Creatures PA, a light, hoppy beer, is also recommended.

As fans of pastrami, we also tried the classic pastrami sandwich (HK$108), which allows you to choose between lean, medium or fatty meats. Both sandwiches featured good-quality pastrami in generous portions, and we enjoyed the pickle that came with each dish.

The bagel and house lox with a side salad (HK$98) followed the sandwiches. The bagel was filled with salmon, tomato and red onions, and is a hearty choice for those looking to fuel their day. Finally, we tried the Morty's poutine (HK$78), which did not disappoint. The fries, which came dripping in cheddar cheese curds, home-made gravy and chopped pastrami, were dense and flavourful.

All of Morty's sandwiches, excluding speciality sandwiches, come in two sizes, allowing diners the freedom to choose whichever portion best accommodates their stomach size.
