The Lounge at JW Marriott, lunch buffet ice cream corner

Hot stuff: The Lounge buffet is thriving thanks to Asian-inspired bistro and curries

Noodle bar, salad bar and dessert station prove popular in venue sporting a new and improved look

After months of refurbishing, The Lounge has reopened with a new and improved look and menu. With shades of grey with black trims and marble tables, there is an upper and lower section with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Queensway. The lunch buffet is proving popular, offering food stations that include a noodle bar, salad bar, an Asian-inspired bistro section of Cantonese items and hot plates of mainly curries, and dessert for HK$330 with tea or coffee included. The buffet stations are in a small room off the Lounge area, as is the new Reidel Room for private parties and events, and Bar Q88.

We start at the noodle section with the laksa and Sichuan noodles. We hand the raw ingredients to the chef who cooks it while we wait. The authentic laksa soup is delicious and the Sichuan soup is a winner for those who like it hot and spicy.

The salad bar has many choices and there is a long line of diners at that station, so I opt for the hot dishes and curries. They do not disappoint. We choose prawn masala, Singapore fish curry and the yellow dahl with rice and naan bread.

The desserts are displayed in the Lounge and include an ice cream and yoghurt dispenser with cones and toppings for diners to make their own. We try the home-made chocolate profiteroles sandwiched together with chocolate Häagen-Dazs ice cream. It is a perfect way to end the meal. The lunch buffet is available from Mondays to Saturday, with a supper buffet after 8pm from Thursday to Saturday.
