Red snapper at Bathers

Bathers makes a splash with seaside classics on Lantau Island

New eatery on Lantau Island, serves up sunny beachside favourites such as fish and chips and burgers, and a number of lighter options

Bathers is the new beachside eatery run by husband-and-wife restaurateurs, Chris Woodyard and Bronwyn Cheung of Woolly Pig Concepts, who also have 12000 francs and Madam S’ate. Bathers replaces the long-time Beach House set on Lantau’s Lower Cheung Sha Beach. The food is modern European by British gastropub guru chef Toby Barrett. The menu is packed with classic dishes you would expect while eating beachside, but for those who want something more, there’s healthy lighter options. Whatever the choice, the dishes feature quality ingredients such as cheeseburgers using wagyu patties with smoked bacon, Emmental cheese, onion rings and fries.

We went for the quinoa salad topped with avocado fritters and a refreshing pea, mint, pear and prosciutto salad (both HK$120). The quinoa with feta, chilli and parsley was a delicious mix of flavours and we all enjoyed the soft yet crunchy avocado fritters. For mains, we went for roasted red snapper with fennel, pine nuts and orange salsa (HK$230). The snapper was cooked to perfection and the accompanying salad had the right amount of crisp, tang and crunch. The grilled lobster with crispy bacon, gremolata and potato salad (HK$220 half, HK$410 whole) was also the right choice for a sunny seaside meal. For diehard fans of fish and chips, they are opening a fish and chip shop next to Bathers. For dessert, the chocolate brownie was gooey and chewy, rich and delicious. It comes with berry cream (HK$85). The passion fruit cheesecake (HK$80) was also a hit. For drinks, there is Champagne or Prosecco, red, white and rose, cooling beers and cider, cocktails and mocktails. Check their website for directions to the restaurant from Tung Chung and Mui Wo.
