TURN-ONS
The fried artichokes with bloody Mary aioli and the spicy calamari with lime garlic aioli
were perfect starters for sharing with a beer, but really, a few bites were enough as they started tasting oily. For mains, the Guinness beef ribs with creamy corn and spicy burrata cheese was generously portioned. We liked the Sichuan spiciness with the meat. It was a good hearty dish. Our favourite was the traditional chicken and leek pie with red cabbage. Also a generous-sized portion, the flaky pastry was perfectly done. As we broke the crust, the piping hot chicken and leek was tasty and warming, the best of British comfort food and one of the best pies I have had in Hong Kong. There is a choice of three desserts and we went for the toffee date pudding with caramelised pear and rum vanilla cream. The pudding was deliciously moist and went well with the cream but it did not need all the other fruit on the plate - hopefully, the dish can be simplified.
TURN-OFFS
The black forest trifle with kirsch vanilla sauce was served in a glass and looked delightful. However, we did not like the cream - it would be nicer with real cream.
DRINK
Full bar and a good wine list. We like the beer-pairing suggestions with the main menu dishes.
