The Sultan’s Table

LG/F, 3-5 Old Bailey Street, Central

2555 7678

This dimly-lit Turkish restaurant nestles between historical Tai Kwun and vibrant SoHo. Like its surroundings, the restaurant is a mix of traditional and contemporary, serving a range of authentic Turkish and Mediterranean dishes – meze starters, in particular – in a modern setting.

The interior features dark polished wood, a modern white brick bar and a cosy shisha lounge. It is definitely a go-to restaurant for a warm and intimate dining experience.

Sultan's Table offers a warm and intimate dining experience.
We started with the cold meze “Little little in the middle” (HK$198), an assorted vegetarian starter served with warm and airy home-made Turkish bread, perfect for dipping or filling. The delight, good for two, consists of five bright-looking dishes, including haydari, a creamy strained yogurt with a pinch of piquant sourness, and köpoglu, a yogurt salad spread with a blend of tender aubergine, tomatoes and bell peppers.

We then moved on to sample the boat-shaped sucuklu pide (HK$118), or Turkish sausage pizza, which is topped with chewy Kasar cheese, moderately peppery Turkish beef sausage and eggs.

For mains, we tried a dish for two – the mixed grill (HK$698) – which includes Adana kebab, lamb rack and chicken and veal skewers made on a Turkish charcoal grill. Our favourite was the lamb rack – well-seasoned, tender and juicy in every bite. The dish was served with Turkish rice, French fries and salad.

If the grill is too heavy for you, balance it with the refreshing Latina’s Watermelon cocktail (HK$128), a Bacardi Carta Blanca and sparkling wine-based cocktail with watermelon chunks, a bright flavour of mint and a light aftertaste of ginger.

We rounded off our dinner with the sutlac rice pudding Sultan style (HK$78), a sweet and creamy milk-based dessert.
