FARE Yakiniku, specialising in Hokkaido cuisine.

AMBIENCE The restaurant is located inside Elements at Kowloon MTR station. The venue is dimly lit but still conducive to lively conversations. Since it is inside the ICC mall, the restaurant attracts shoppers and workers from nearby offices, and the atmosphere reflects that.

COST Depending on the cuts, dishes range from HK$98 to upwards of HK$300 per plate. Platters go for around HK$500 per order.

WHO TO BRING Friends.

TURN-ONS We are encouraged to try a selection of signature dishes. The beef is said to come from an exclusive farm in Hokkaido. If you are hungry, the A4 Wagyu in sukiyaki sauce will prepare you for the rest of the evening. It’s heavy, though, so do not leave this till the end. Guests can appreciate an array of offerings from the Mirai beef supreme karubi, karubi in pot, and an assorted Mirai beef rare parts special platter (enough for two). We are most impressed by their stone pot kimchi bibimbap, which is perfectly prepared, with balanced flavours. The portion is substantial enough for two people to share as a side to the many different dishes. Lunch sets are available throughout the week and at weekends.

TURN-OFFS While the dishes we try present an interesting selection, some of the meat dishes are on the fatty side – which may appeal to many local diners. However, the texture in two dishes fall a bit short; the beef tongue would be more enjoyable if the slices were thicker, to fully savour the flavour and texture.
