Have you seen Morgy?

Rumor has it there’s been some sightings of a monstrous, “dog-sized” rodent that lives by the 24-hour McDonald’s on Queen’s Road Central

The grainy image he showed me on his iPhone looked a bit like the “surgeon’s photo,” also known as the most famous photograph of the Loch Ness monster, captured by Colonel Robert Wilson in the 1930s and later revealed to be a hoax. And the subject Phillip claimed he captured was every bit as mysterious as old Nessie.

“It’s the rat,” he said. “The one that everyone has been talking about.” Rumor has it, according to Phil, there’s been some sightings of a monstrous, “dog-sized” rodent that lives by the 24-hour McDonald’s on Queen’s Road Central. It became that way, so it’s been said, because it sustains itself on a diet consisting almost entirely of the leftover French fries that no one ever finishes with their combo meal.

Phil nicknamed it Morgy, after the American documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, who is best known for his movie "Super Size Me" where he goes on a 30-day McDonald’s-only binge.

I did a double take on the grainy photograph. Is that supposed to be a tail or something? Eh… I didn’t really see it. And I doubt the accuracy of first-hand testimonials provided largely by the slurred-speech crowd of late night drunken Lankwaifongers going for their post-partying nosh of Mcnuggets and Big Macs.

I guess it’s not farfetched to deduce by logic alone that we could be beefing up a behemoth rat outside of a fast food joint. But what about the pests that feed off our rubbish elsewhere? Would Morgy be sporting a svelter physique were he to assemble his daily meals from the leftovers at ThreeSixty instead? Would he have a better palate if he were to wait in the trash bins outside the Four Seasons for scraps of truffles and caviar?

Let’s face it: we throw away a whole lot of food these days, and there's an all-you-can-eat buffet for bottom feeders everywhere.
