Upclose with DJ Miss Yellow
Wong Yat-tung, a former Miss Hong Kong contestant and TVB actress, has been tearing up dance floors lately as DJ Miss Yellow. She chews the phat with Johannes Pong.

HK Magazine: Love your DJ name and style. How much do you like the color yellow?
Wong Yat-tung: I actually started enjoying wearing yellow more since I created this DJ persona. My last name means “yellow,” and of course, I’m Asian.
HK: What did you want to be as a little girl?
WYT: I wanted to be a singer. Madonna’s my queen. Then I started modeling and got into the entertainment business for eight pretty lost years.
HK: And then you started DJing?
WYT: Two years ago. A friend started learning how to spin, and I thought, “I’ve always enjoyed clubbing, I can do that.” So I went along too. I began with the basics, and I trained for a year at an upstairs lounge bar in Causeway Bay, playing R&B and hip-hop. I don’t just play that, though. I’m getting into electro and breakbeats. It’s a whole new world of knowledge.
HK: And when did you officially come out as a DJ?
WYT: Last October, I had my graduation party at Club Magazine. It was awesome.
HK: How did you get with the Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy collective?
WYT: I went to their first party and had so much fun I was stunned stupid. They heard my set and liked it, and asked me to play at their next event. I was floored. I mean, DJ Kid Fresh and Enso, they’re world champions, I’m just a newbie.
HK: How is being a DJ different from being an actress?
WYT: As an actress, I never really got to play any character that
I really enjoyed playing. As a DJ, I AM the selecta. That’s immensely satisfying.
